The Power of a Goal

Goals are funny things. They are targets we aim for. If we aim at nothing we hit nothing. They give us something to try for.

I heard Mike Huckabee recently talk about how he used to be a couch potato but then decided to run a marathon. Now he is training for his fourth marathon. Running 26 miles is a big goal.

When we don't hit our goals we can take funny routes with our mind. "Goals are no good" is one response. "This just showed me something about myself"  may be a better response.

To set a goal and not hit it doesn't devalue you as a person. It's just a measurement to help us. You are still valuable whether you hit your goal or not.

Sometimes the fun is in the trying. Trying to grow, to get better, to become better.

It's good to think about goals right now. 2007 is almost over. 2008 is almost here.

Set a few goals in areas that are important to you. It's who you become in trying to reach those goals that's way more valuable then reaching the goal itself.
